Vital Points or Pressure Points (Kuep Soh in Korean)

Name

Location

Method Of Attack or Use

Gold Belt

Lung 7

On the thumb side of the wrist

Grab point, press to weaken the hand

Heart 6

On the palm side of the wrist on the pinky side of hand. Slightly above the crease of the wrist.

Press  to weaken wrist

Triple Warmer 11

Just above the elbow on the back of arm

Strike or rub to release elbow and lock the shoulder

Triple Warmer 12

On the back of the arm in the middle of the triceps

Strike or rub this point against the bone to release the shoulder and lock the elbow

Orange Belt

Lung 5

Just below the crease of the elbow on the palm and thumb side of the arm

Strike this point in a cup shaped method back towards the hand to bring the head forward and make the knees buckle.

Stomach 9

On the side of the neck, level with the Adam’s Apple at the crease of the neck muscle.

Strike with a penetrating blow at a 45 degree angle into the neck to produce unconsciousness.

Triple Warmer 17

Behind the jaw, in the depression under the ear.

Strike diagonally back to front hitting the point against the back of the jaw bone to cause unconsciousness.

Spleen 11

On the inside of the thigh, about midway between the knee and the groin.

Strike this point to buckle the leg.

Green Belt

Lung 1

In the upper portion of the chest muscle about halfway between the armpit and the top of the shoulder near the meeting of the chest and shoulder

Strike this point in a downward and inward direction to disrupt the respiratory system

Stomach 5

On the side of the jaw, near the notch along the bottom of the jaw

Strike this point at a 45 degree angle towards the center of the head. Palm strikes should use a slight twisting motion.

Spleen 10

Located on the inside of the leg, slightly up from the knee

Strike diagonally downward through the center of the knee to dislocate the knee or knock the attacker down

Pericardium 2

Level with the fold of the armpit along the mid line of the bicep

Strike this point straight on to numb the bicep and cause pain.

Blue Belt

Governor 26

The philtrum is located in the depression between the nose and the upper lip.

This is a rub point where you use a side to side motion with the fore-knuckles. You can control the head by grabbing the hair and rubbing this point to turn the head. You can also drive an attacker away by rubbing this point. Most martial arts styles incorrectly state this is a strike point.

Liver 14

At the medial margin of the rib cage at the merging 6th and 7th costal cartilage.

Strike this point diagonally up and in. A very potent striking point.

Conception 17

Located on the sternum, level with the nipples in the chest depression.

This strike can damage the heart and disrupt the ziphiod process. This will cause death so do not practice striking.

Triple Warmer 15

Superior to the scapula, level with the tip of the shoulder and midways towards the spine.

Strike this point diagonally downward. It also responds to thumb pressure.

Resuscitation Methods

Purple Belt

Gall Bladder 25

At the inferior border of the free end of the 12th or floating rib on the back. This point is just at the tip of the smaller of the two floating ribs.

This is the alarm point for the kidney meridian and should not be struck in practice.

Liver 3

In the depression between the 1st and 2nd metatarsal bones. This point can be found on the top of the foot, between the two bones leading to the big and 2nd toes.

Press or strike this point diagonally downward.

Gall Bladder 41

In the depression just in front of the merging of the 4th and 5th metatarsal bones. Just in front of the bulge on the top of the foot.

Stomp this point, or if shoeless strike this point with a single knuckle.

Tanden Cluster Conception Points 3-6

Known as the “KI” center. Along the centerline, just below the belly button. There are 4 points located very close together. CO-6 is the main point and the other 3 points are alarm points for other meridians.

Strike these points either diagonally upward or downward to incapacitate the opponent.

Gall Bladder 24

At the medial margin of the rib cage on the opponents right side of their rib cage at the merging of the 7th and 8th costal cartilage.

Strike this point diagonally up and in. This can effect both yin points (liver and spleen) and yang points (gallbladder and bladder) at the same time.

Spleen 6

Located between the posterior margin of the tibia and the soleus muscle. Above the knob on the ankle on the inside of the leg about midway between the prominence of the ankle and the lower edge of the calf muscle.

Kick this point with a rising motion to rob the leg of energy. The kidney, liver and spleen meridians cross at this point.

Brown Belt

Large Intestine 7

About 5 AU up (proximal) from the wrist on the thumb side of the forearm.

Strike this point against the bone, in the direction of the hand.

Small Intestine 7

In the middle of the forearm, 5 AU up (proximal) from the wrist along the ulna at the end of the extensor carpi ulnaris muscle.

Strike or press this point against the ulnar bone. A strike will loosen the grip.

Stomach 12

In the depression at the middle of the superior border of the clavicle, 4 AU from the median line. This point lies just behind the collar bone directly above the nipple.

Press downward behind the collar bone with the fingertips to drive the opponent to the ground.

Gall Bladder 14

In the frontalis muscle, 1 AU above the mid point of the eye brow. Directly above the pupil of the eye if they are looking straight ahead.

Strike this point with a palm technique to cause motor impairment and disorientation leading to unconsciousness.

Extra Ordinary Point M-HN -14

At the lateral, inferior side of the nasal bone. It is on the side of the nose, just at the juncture of the nose and cheek bone.

Strike this point from the side to cause the eyes to close tightly and tear up. A substantial blow will break the nose.

Perform a knockout

Red Belt

Large Intestine 11

On the radial aspect of the elbow. This point can be found just to the outside of the crease of the elbow at the bulge of the muscle.

Strike this point back to front to produce numbness in the arm, and cause the opponent’s head to come forward, exposing head and neck points for further attack. This point can also be pressed with the thumb.

Large Intestine 17

On the lateral aspect of the neck, 2 AU above Stomach 12. It is in the hollow triangle between the 2 muscles on the side of the neck, where the neck rises from the body.

Strike this point in a downward diagonal angle to disrupt the lungs. Even a light blow can cause an episode of coughing.

Gall Bladder 20

In the hollow at the back of the neck, just below the occipital bone.

Strike this point from back to front to produce unconsciousness. A light blow will cause a tingling sensation down the back of the body to the feet, typically causing the heels to pull off the ground.

Stomach 18

Below the nipple in the 5th intercostal space, at the lower margin of the pectoralis muscle.

Punch this point directly. A very sensitive area for body builders because of the stretching that has been done to increase the breast muscle.

Spleen 21

On the mid-axillary line, in the 7th intercostals space. This point can be found on the side of the body, midway between the center of the armpit and the free end of the 11th (floating) rib.

Strike this point from the side towards the center of the body.

Gall Bladder 31

This point is located 7 AU above the knee on the lateral aspect of the thigh. This point can be found by standing upright with the arm extended along the side of the leg. The point will be just where the tip of the middle finger touches.

Strike this point from the side. The point is deep, so sufficient force needs to be applied to reach the nerve.

Perform a knockout
